The Missions Focus of Women on Mission is:

  • Pray for and give to missions.
By praying for and giving to missions, people in the church can take part in sharing the gospel with the world world.
    >> Praying for Missionaries A to Z
  • Do missions.
WMU encourages and provides opportunities for church members to minister and witness to those who are not Christian. It includes both ministry and witness.
    >> Missionary Classification
  • Learn about missions.
Learning about missions helps church members know, understand, and change their attitudes. It helps them develop methods and abilities to pray for, give to, and do missions.
  • Develop spiritually toward a missions lifestyle.
WMU helps people grow in their understanding of who God is and what He is calling them to do. As they grow closer to God, people can see their part in fulfilling the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20.
  • Participate in the work of the church and denomination.
WMU members and leaders are a part of the work of the whole church. This includes worship, evangelism, missions, ministry, discipleship, and fellowship.

Women on Mission helps each woman to carry out Christ's purpose for her life as she grows in her Christian walk. The purpose of all Women on Mission activities is that every person have the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel.

How Does Women on Mission Work?

Women on Mission members are women who participate in ongoing small groups, through individual involvement, by attending missions events, or by participating in a missions project.

  1. Small Group Involvement
Small groups are created based on a common need, interest, lifestyle, or missions purpose. Groups allow for intimacy and accountability. The resource for these groups is Missions Mosaic magazine.
  2. Individual Involvement
Women can join Women on Mission even though they may not be able to participate in a group. Every article and daily devotional in Missions Mosaic gives guidance to the woman who cannot participate in an ongoing group.
  3. Missions Events
A missions event creates greater missions awareness in the church. Weekend retreats, weeks of prayer, celebration experiences, even missions fairs, bring all women of the church together to celebrate what God is doing in their lives, in their Women on Mission groups, and in the world. These experiences move women to greater missions involvement through the use of worship, music, speakers, testimonies, presentations of the gospel, seminars, missions presentations, demonstrations, drama, prayer, and fellowship.
  4. Ministry Projects
Hands-on participation in ministry projects changes lives and attracts people to missions work. Whether the project is a long term local ministry or a short term volunteer missions trip, the results are more Christians involved in missions work and more lives touched by the gospel message.

WMU & WOM Core Values

  • We uphold the foundational principles of the priesthood of every believer and the autonomy and uniqueness of each local church in carrying out the Great Commission.
  • We embrace the strategic role of prayer and giving for missionaries and missions needs.
  • We recognize the role of family in discipleship and missions development.
  • We recognize the giftedness of women and girls and accept the responsibility to help them use their gifts in serving Christ.
  • We accept the responsibility for nurturing preschoolers, children, youth, and adults in missions.
  • We accept the responsibility for developing and equipping missions leaders.
  • We accept the biblical mandate to respond to human need with actions modeled by Jesus Christ and with the message of God's redemptive plan.
  • We partner with other Great Commission Christians to lead a lost world to Christ.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ, Son of God, gave His life a sacrifice for the salvation of all the people of the world, fulfilling God's plan for the ages as revealed in the Bible, God's Holy Word.

  • Rheubin L. South Offering for State Missions

As a part of the Southern Baptist Convention, First Baptist Church has many opportunities for people to support missions in North America and around the world. Each year we have the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. All of the proceeds from this offering go to the International Mission Board of the SBC. Each Easter, the Annie Armstrong Offering is taken and goes to support missions in North America. Any time you give money to the church through your weekly tithes and offerings, a portion of that goes to support missions through the cooperative program of the SBC.
