First Impressions Team

The First Impressions Team consists of men and women, who serve as parking lot greeters, worship greeters, welcome/information center greeters, and ushers. This is a crucial ministry because research indicates that most first-time guests have decided if they will return before the pastor's message and guests will determine how they feel about FBC based on how they are initially greeted.

Purpose Statement

  1. To be an extension of the Senior Pastor.
  2. To help people experience the presence of God in worship service and other activities at FBC.
  3. To create an excellent first impression for people attending FBC.

Why is the First Impressions Team Extremely Important?

  1. You are the first impression people have of FBC. Guests will determine how they feel about FBC based on how they are initially greeted.
  2. One important factor in first-time guests coming to visit again is a pleasant experience on their first visit.
  3. Research indicates that most first-time guests will decide if they will return before they hear the pastor's message.
  4. Ushers, greeters, the church staff, and the pastor form an important team for helping experience God.
  5. To the first-time guests, we are the church.
  6. We need to be able to: project warmth, give needed direction, and be a servant.
  7. We must help overcome the normal first-time guest feelings of nervousness, fearfulness, and insecurity.

Qualities of a good usher or greeter:

  1. The ability to make people feel comfortable and at ease
  2. Genuine warmth
  3. Leadership skills
  4. People skills
  5. Helpful nature
  6. Neat appearance
  7. Discerning heart
  8. Enthusiastic attitude

Requirements to be a member of the First Impression Team:

  1. Membership at FBC Forsyth.
  2. Generally available to serve on Sunday mornings on a rotating basis and special events.
  3. Embodied with spiritual gifts of service and hospitality.
  4. Ability to effectively relate to people.
  5. Approved by the FBC church staff.

General Responsibilities for ALL First Impressions Team members include: arriving early; wearing a name badge; focus on achieving the purpose statement for the FIT each service; minimize conversations that may distract you from your duties; give everyone a warm, friendly greeting; assist people with direction and information as needed; be familiar with facilities so you can answer questions; be responsive to your captains need for support and any unique or special procedures; and be faithful to your ministry. We are unashamedly looking for committed Christians to serve on the First Impressions Team.
